What is MIPS?
As part of the Quality Payment Program mandated by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), CMS established the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) to encourage clinicians to engage in specific practices with the goal of improving the quality of patient care. Participation is mandatory for many providers, and choosing not to participate may decrease your Medicare payments up to 9%. Meeting the minimum reporting requirements allows you to avoid this penalty, and full participation in MIPS could result in bonus payments of up to 9%.
